I accidentally deposited Reddcoins instead of Redcoins to Bter. After noticing I contacted them and I received the following reply:
Dear Sir,
Bter only supports redcoin, not reddcoin.
If it is the reddcoin you sent to bter, the coins will be lost.
If it is the redcoin, we may help with it.
Best Regards Bter.com
I am not that much familiar with crypto-currency but I was kind of shocked with this reply. Can coins be lost?!
Also how is it possible for coins to be send on an address of a different crypto-currency?
My questions might seem odd for someone more experienced in crypto-currency but I thought that such things are not possible or were auto-addressed. I was thinking that no such cases could take place.
ted Reddcoins instead of Redcoins to Bter. After noticing I contacted them and I received the following reply:
I could be wrong but the reason why your transaction was confirmed by your wallet is the address prefix… cause both currencies use the “R” letter in the beggining of the adress.
So in theory you send the coins to a Reddcoin address and it is there on the blockchain… http://live.reddcoin.com/ try to seach in our blockchain for the Redcoin adress you send them.
Maybe someone in the future will generate the private key and keep the money… or has already claimed too…
You still can try to generate private key to that adress, but will take something like a billion years for what I have readed… at least with the current computer power…
Im not sure if address generated with 60 as the decimal version would work for reddcoin but it also starts with R. I may test this later, also for 59 & 62.
So if its a redcoin address it is a valid reddcoin address and vice versa
Oliver stefioan the way addresses are generated can all be found in that base58.h file I believe. But heres another question that could possibly help get your coins back if bter is willing to do it. If you got that private key and imported it to reddcoin-qt, would you get the address sense they use the same decimal version for addresses?
EDIT: Answered my own question here: yes because think about how for vanitygen you only need to define the version (-X 61) to get an address and private key pair
If you got that private key and imported it to reddcoin-qt, would you get the address sense they use the same decimal
That is what I wanted to correlate if they are generated only based on these same parameters… if not his quest could be useless… although If it was me I would ask for the private key of that address anyway.
Oliver: I can confirm what iisurge said. If he gets the private key or bter will import the private key to a reddcoin wallet they can recover his coins.
thanks for helping out guys.
I am not 100% sure of what I should ask them but what I understood is that the private key for the address in Redcoin is the same for the address in Reddcoin right?

This is true, exchanges such as cryptsy have been know to do this on multiple diffrent occasions I recommend you ticket support, Best of luck

stefioan If Bter can’t help then I’d like to send 100k RDD to you. I just won some coins playing around on reddcoinbet.co so it’s like found money to me.
