Happy Birthday Reddcoin Core 2.0

Tomorrow, 13 August 2017, Reddcoin Core 2.0 will be one year old. I wanted to jump in and be the first to say Happy Birthday.

Reddcoin Core 2.0 was a very significant re-plumbing of Reddcoin from being based on Litecoin 10 to being based on Bitcoin 9 (hence the term re-basing) - a big step forwards in spite of the version numbers. Some commentators who have a look at the GitHub repo (https://github.com/reddcoin-project/reddcoin) and see not much has happened for a year use this to diss Reddcoin. But the truth of the matter is that no updates to Reddcoin Core have been needed - the code is rock solid. No bug fix releases have been necessary. It was a great piece of work by gnasher and that should help to persuade you that Redd-ID will be similarly solid. Indeed Reddcoin Core 2.0 and its re-basing onto Bitcoin 9 was a necessary precursor to Redd-ID which requires support for OP_RETURN in the blockchain. In fact Reddcoin has a double sized OP_RETURN compared to Bitcoin resulting in more capacity for on-chain data. So from that perspective the work on Redd-ID started more than a year ago.

I think it is topical to give this recent history an airing given that we stand, today, on the threshold of the release of Redd-ID (Q3 2017).

Happy birthday Reddcoin 2.0…
