Transfer from coinspot to old reddcoin wallet not appearing in new wallet

Hi there, I transferred some RDD from coinspot to my old reddcoin core wallet on my mac and now after creating a backup and updating my wallet and syncing the coins do not appear and the transaction history does not appear in the updated wallet.

old rdd wallet address i sent coins to is: Rmt7uEspUzwSJ6TJ8MwviSTZx4JtCzTBCt
txid for transaction is: 1a70de5631905d4286486503c1c44bcb86c227c3a40f8988fc9f34d14d57920b

I have checked live.reddcoin and the transaction of 1933rdd says confirmed.

any help appreciated although i think the coins may be lost on old wallet now

Don’t worry, your coins are not lost.

Which version of Reddcoin Core are you using?

currently v3.10.3

updated from a v.2

I am assuming you’re using Windows. If not, let me know.

  • Exit/close Reddcoin Core. Make sure it’s not running.

  • Delete exiting blockchain data. This will force you to sync the blockchain from scratch, making sure you are on the correct chain.

    • Press Windows Key + R. The ‘Run’ Window should open.
    • In Run, enter: %AppData%
    • A new window opens, with all kinds of folders. Search for the Reddcoin folder and open it.
    • This Reddcoin folder is your Reddcoin data folder!
    • Delete the following folders in this Reddcoin folder:
      • blocks
      • chainstate
    • Delete the following files in this Reddcoin folder:
      • peers.dat.
    • Leave this window open.

  • Download the bootstrap file. This will speed up the blockchain syncing.
    • Download this large file of 4 GB: https://download.reddcoin.com/bin/bootstrap/blockchain-Nov-26-2020.zip.
    • After the download is finished, extract the zip file:.
      • “To unzip all the contents of the zipped folder, press and hold (or right-click) the folder, select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.”
    • After the file is extracted, you will see two folders: blocks and chainstate.
    • Move these 2 folders to the Reddcoin data folder - the window that you left open (where you previously deleted folders and a file).

  • Run Reddcoin Core and let it finish syncing. Do not send RDDs in the meantime.
  • After syncing is finished, your balance should be as expected. (The RDDs Coinspot are now in your wallet!)
  • You can now use Reddcoin Core. And make a new transactions (read below how to).
  • If your wallet is encrypted, make sure to unlock first to start staking.

  • When making a new transaction, do this (in the Send window):
  • Enter the receiving address and the amount.
  • Click on ‘Choose…’ at the bottom.
  • Select ‘Custom’.
  • Select ‘total at least’.
  • Set value of ‘total at least’: 1 RDD.
  • Uncheck ‘Send as zero-fee transaction’.
  • Make the transaction.

thank you for your help! I am actually on a mac. is the process the same with deleting those files when on a mac?

  • Exit/close Reddcoin Core. Make sure it’s not running.

  • Open the Finder app, and, in the top menu, select Go > Go to Folder.
    Enter this:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Reddcoin

  • Delete the following folders in this Reddcoin folder:
    • blocks
    • chainstate
  • Delete the following files in this Reddcoin folder:
    • peers.dat.
  • Leave this window open.

  • Download the bootstrap file (large file of 4 GB): https://download.reddcoin.com/bin/bootstrap/blockchain-Nov-26-2020.zip.
  • Move (cut + paste) this file into the Reddcoin folder from earlier (where you deleted files).
  • After moving, double click to extract the files.
  • After the file is extracted, you will see two folders: blocks and chainstate.
  • You can delete the blockchain-Nov-26-2020.zip file.

  • Run Reddcoin Core and let it finish syncing. Do not send RDDs in the meantime.
  • After syncing is finished, your balance should be as expected. (The RDDs from Coinspot are now in your wallet!)
  • You can now use Reddcoin Core. When making new transactions, read the instructions below.
  • If your wallet is encrypted, make sure to unlock first to start staking.

When making a new transaction, do this (in the Send window):

  • Enter the receiving address and the amount.
  • Click on ‘Choose…’ at the bottom.
  • Select ‘Custom’.
  • Select ‘total at least’.

  • Uncheck ‘Send as zero-fee transaction’.
  • Make the transaction.

thanks for the instructions! apologies for the late reply.

I have tried this and only my balance from recent transactions have appeared in my Reddcoin Core wallet.

The transaction (19331rdd from coinspot to reddcoin core) that was sent to my outdated RDD wallet is still not visible.

thanks

Where did you put the Reddcoin-Qt.app (the Reddcoin Core application)? In which folder? Is it in the standard ‘Applications’ folder?

Yes it’s in the standard applications folder.
Unfortunately I also didn’t keep the v2 wallet file. (Not very smart I know)

Let’s start with a -rescan first.

  • Open Reddcoin Core and make a backup.

    • File (menu) → Backup wallet.
    • Do not skip this step.
  • After making a backup, exit/close Reddcoin Core.

  • Open the Terminal app.

  • Enter these commands in Terminal:

    • cd /Applications
    • Reddcoin-Qt.app/Contents/MacOS/Reddcoin-Qt --rescan
  • Reddcoin Core will start, let it load. It can take a while.

  • After Reddcoin Core is fully loaded, check your balance.
The transaction should have been removed, and the RDDs are placed back in your balance.
    Is your balance as expected.

  • Also, do you see any transactions in your transaction list. All the transactions should have a green check mark, is this the case?

all my transactions that ive made using v3 are in the list with a green tick. I still cannot see the v2 wallet transaction or the coins.

  • Do you see the transaction from Coinspot?

  • What do you mean with “v2 wallet transactions or the coins”? Did you make any outgoing transactions from your wallet when you still used v2? Where those transactions confirmed, did you see those transactions on live.reddcoin.com?

I am trying to get the full picture here, but that’s hard as I don’t know the details of your wallet or your transactions.

In any case, if you created new transaction on Reddcoin Core on v2 after July 21, 2020, those transactions are not accepted on the Reddcoin blockchain.

So, what are you missing exactly?

the transaction im missing is a transfer of coins from coinspot to reddcoin core wallet which was in version 2 when the transfer was made.
txid is 1a70de5631905d4286486503c1c44bcb86c227c3a40f8988fc9f34d14d57920b

I made no transactions FROM Reddcoin Core v2.

I can see the transaction (coinspot --> reddcoin core v2) on coinspot and it says it has been completed but the coins did not re appear once I updated reddcoin core to V3.

the receiving address from the v2 wallet is Rmt7uEspUzwSJ6TJ8MwviSTZx4JtCzTBCt

1a70de5631905d4286486503c1c44bcb86c227c3a40f8988fc9f34d14d57920b

This transaction is on the blockchain: https://live.reddcoin.com/tx/1a70de5631905d4286486503c1c44bcb86c227c3a40f8988fc9f34d14d57920b, and indeed is made to the address you provided.

Open Reddcoin Core → File (menu) → Receiving addresses.

Do you see Rmt7uEspUzwSJ6TJ8MwviSTZx4JtCzTBCt in that list of addresses?

no, that receiving address is not visible. I can see other addresses but I can also see the transactions made with those addresses

I have run some recovery software and believe I have found the v2 wallet backup file but im not sure how to get this into the v3 wallet.

thanks for your help

  • Exit/close Reddcoin Core. Make sure it’s not running.

  • Open the Finder app, and, in the top menu, select Go > Go to Folder.
    Enter this:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Reddcoin

  • You will see a wallet.dat file there. Rename it, for example to: walletMostRecent.dat or something.
  • Now, copy the copy that you have to the folder, and make sure the filename of your copy is wallet.dat
  • Start Reddcoin Core. Then check Receiving addresses again.

I can now see the receiving address and the coins are available but I can no longer see any of my new transactions (since updating to v3)

  • How many receiving addresses do you have in the v2 wallet?

  • How many receiving addresses do you have in the v3 wallet?

  • Are there some addresses in both wallets, or are the addresses unique per wallet?

So, basically, how many (unique) addresses do you have in total?

What I have in mind:

  • Open the v2 wallet and dump/export all the private keys.

  • Open the v3 wallet and dump/export all the private keys.

  • Create a fresh wallet, and import all the private keys.

By doing this, your new wallet will have all the addresses and all the transactions. Basically, you will combine the v2 and v3 wallet into 1 wallet.
