Hello everyone
I am a new Reddcoin fan, and I read that the minting could even be done on mobile phones. Is there an application already available ? If not, I really think that it could be a wonderful way to increase the notoriety of the currency !
I am not a developer myself so I don’t know how feasible such an app would be, but I study marketing and I am positive that it would be a big step to fulfill the purpose of “social money” Reddcoin aims to be.
Thanks anyway and let me know if you need any help (I’m French)
antsants thankyou for your query.
Currently not able to mint on mobile phone but this is something we are investigating.
We have a few french speakers in Reddcoin. Maybe we could use some of your marketing talent for our french users.
I did some research into this subject a long time back (2015). It’s a challenge to develop something like this and to keep it decentralized. Having to maintain a copy of the blockchain on a mobile device is something that won’t work in 99% of cases because of resource usage. Not sure about the possibilties of Electrum-based staking yet though and I’d have to look into the current possibilities.
lionzeye you’re right that this would create centralised locations (much like a mining pool does) and the other consideration is the power drain on a mobile phone. The other consideration is how much Reddcoin would someone want to store on their mobile device. Obviously you need a reasonable balance to get consistent staking. This would be a risk factor also.
These are all trade-offs as to what would be acceptable.
I am not a developper so I do not know much about the complexity indeed but as everybody use smatrphones much more often that computers, the possibility of having a Reddcoin wallet on phones is very appealing.
It could make payments between every user worldwide free and easy and attract a much higher community. Maybe you know about the Lydia App that enables to send small amounts of money to your friends but with a fee when it comes to professional expenses. A Reddcoin smartphone wallet could do exactly the same and hence compete with the app.
I think it is worth looking into it

antsants definitely having a wallet on your mobile is a worthy goal (and in fact you can already use products like coinomi who provide a multicurrency wallet)
The question really is, should a mobile wallet also be capable of staking? And does that bring enough benefit or should we identify a better use of mobile wallets

Aside from use case, I made some conceptual art for a mobile app a few months ago. Here’s a look again.
It’s nothing specific, just suggests possibilities…
bigmapidea I recall that, and sorry if I didn’t bump it more at the time. You could join our reddcoin developper slack channel as there are some development on the mobile wallet front, and of course, any UX/UI/Design element is always nice to have.
as an extension of this invitation, we are always looking for someone to help us modernize and streamlin reddcoin brand within its app (wallet and mobile wallet namely). You could be off a good start.

DeadPool Good idea. I’ll check out the Slack channel.
DeadPool I believe I need an invite perhaps?
